Tatted Tricorn Edging WB12/1956
Workbasket pattern Dec. 1956 Tricorn Edging
Last time we examined a Workbasket pattern we discovered that an entire step had been left out of the printed pattern. By studying the photo we were able to reconstruct the missing bit to complete that edging. As with all vintage patterns, tatters need to be alert for errors in the patterns.
Today we have the "Tatted Tricorn Edging" from the Workbasket in 1956 Dec. on pgs 38 - 39. Here is the printed pattern.
It is not a neat and tidy design. There are decorative picots and very stretched joining picots. It was a minute before it dawned on me that these rings and chains were made with "dimpled rings." And this is 1956. I first learned the dimpled ring from Joyce Botchlet in her book on "Dimpled Rings." Used to make a heart it is very attractive. I began to get excited about this pattern and eager to start it.
But, as always, I read the pattern first and either draw it out a bit or trace the photo with my shuttle point. It began with a ring. The ds count did not match. So I began again with the chain. The ds count did not match. I left it for the time being and came back to the pattern fresh the next morning. The problem jumped out at me.
This is the original photo.
Try matching the directions to it. No go.
But just reverse the image as I did here.
That was the problem.
The order of work should be as above.
Working in the opposite direction begin where the start is marked and reverse work between each ring or chain.
